What is your opinion on me dying my hair behind my parent's back?

What do you think about me buying a decent brand of hair dye from Target, and dying my blond hair black while at a friend's house. My parents would never expect me to do this. I am tired of the way I look, and my Mom refuses to let me change anything about myself. She wouldn't even agree to a compromise and let my stylist dye my hair brown. Mom also won't let me get a cartilage piercing or cut my hair short, but there's nothing I can do about those things. But I CAN dye my hair black, and show her that she cannot control everything about the way I look no matter how much she wants to.

Plus, I think I'd look really nice with black hair.

What do you think of the whole thing? I'm sure some of you think I sound like the stereotypical non-conforming teenager who wants to do the opposite of whatever her parents say and make herself as unattractive as possible, but this is NOT the case. I'm 16--shouldn't I have the right to experiment with the way I look?

You should respect your parents wishes.

No you should not have the right to do as you please. You are very selfish to intentionally hurt your mother this way. You should think of how much she loves you and cares for you and you should be thankful she doesn't treat you as a throw away kid like too many moms do these days. Show a little respect and humility and forget this whole thing. It's just not worth the hassle or the pain to your mom.

hmmm.. i sense rebellion.. why don't you say all these things you've said to us to your mother?

What is your opinion on me dying my hair behind my parent's back?

you will not look nice with black hair....you will look like a pasty gothic dead girl. If you want to prove a point to your mother (and I'm not saying you should) then dye your hair brown.

I'm not saying you are a stereotypical teen but you do need to accept that your parents are in charge of you until you're 18 and say no to things for a reason. We all went through that phase and most of us, when we got older realized how stupid it was to fight over it.

In short I'm saying.....choose your battles wisely. Maybe you should wait to be the defiant one over an actual important issue and not something so petty as the color of your hair.

I know how you feel..and I think if your mom was cool she would let you dye your hair...it is who you are, your individuality...I don't think it's a big deal,it seems like she's being too controlling..when I was 16 I spiked my hair(mini mohawk)my mom said it looked stupid but I did'nt care because I knew she would never understand me..just do what you need to do...and yes you have the right!
